"If a compounder wants to turn a doctor and is willing to run his clinic in front of the same hospital where he used to assist, what can one do?" Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai when asked about his views on a film actor turning a producer recently stated this.

Shah Rukh Khan is one among those who have burnt their hard earned money in making films on their own. Shah Rukh along with his close friend and director Aziz Mirza, and actress Juhi Chawla launched film production house Dreamz Unlimited and started making films.

Their first film 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' was a dud. Then Shah Rukh made 'Asoka' and that too failed to turn fortunes in his favor. 'Chalte Chalte' seems to be an extension of an old and stale story.

Aziz has directed Shah Rukh's three films before this, 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman', 'Yes Boss' and 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani'. 'Chalte Chalte' is the film that saw fight between Salman and Aishwarya on its sets, resulting in the exit of Aishwarya and her replacement with Rani Mukherjee.

Rani Mukherjee attains a new look to play Priya in 'Chalte Chalte'. Shah Rukh Khan plays Raj. Both have different likes and dislikes. They are poles apart from each other.

If the hero was rich in 'Saathiya', he (Raj) is an impulsive commoner, hardworking and loses his heart for every pain he sees on the road. If Rani played a simple and poor girl in 'Saathiya', here Priya portrays the just opposite character.

She is sophisticated and practical. Priya and Raj meet for the first time and their unison seems to be a miracle. They throw caution to the winds and dare to fall in love. But love is not the end of the life.

It is just like a catalyst to the life and the reactions after this can lead to anywhere. After the marriage, Raj and Priya quarrel on every point. Love is like an illusion now and every thing looks topsy-turvy.

Love takes back seat and reality of life comes in the forefront. Will destiny really play a role in a man- woman alliance? The eternal problems resurface. This is 'Chalte Chalte' from Shah Rukh Khan and Aziz Mirza.

After some time, Shah Rukh leaves the young spoilt brat behind and instead tries his hands on a matured character that is more suitable for his age.

But his image of an entertainer comes in between time and again. He tries to bring in his Midas' touch to this mature character.

Shah Rukh has proved his excellence in portraying complex characters many times.

In fact, in his first super hit 'Baazigar' he walked miles ahead of his competitors but down the memory lanes are many characters where his acting could not carry a poorly written film.

'Chalte Chalte' is not an exception. Though Shah Rukh has worked very hard, there is a lacuna in the screenplay. The film takes a very good start, but it has very little to offer afresh.

The story has no novelty, even though the presentation of narration is a bit different. Most of the ventures made by superstars give more importance to their portrayal than to the story. If 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' was a case of wrong study of the market, then 'Chalte Chalte' is a wrong selection of the subject.

Rani Mukherjee is desperate for a hit. So, she is presented in a new avatar. She wears skirts most of the time. Though she looks pretty in this attire, it is her acting that saves the film.

Rani Mukherjee has a very strong brain on his soft shoulders. She also matches Shah Rukh foot by foot. The story moves around Raj and Priya, but Aziz Mirza has taken liberty to bring in oft- repeated twists in the story with some novelty.

Songs have been used to bridge the story gaps and are the highlights of the film. These songs composed by Jatin Lalit and Aadesh Shrivastav are tuned brilliantly

The compositions are melodious and voice mellifluous. Abhijit once again proves that he is the most suitable voice available for Shah Rukh Khan. He sings the songs with ease and it is Shah Rukh once again who gives meaning to these songs on the screen.

The photography exploits exotic locales to its fullest. Costumes are competent to set in a new trend in fashion. The film relies heavily on the family audience.

Since the audience is choosy for niche films, 'Chalte Chalte', made on routine stories, will have to fight it tooth and nail to succeed at the box office.
